Turnitin checker: what you can use before you submit

You want to see a result before you hand your paper in. Turnitin does not sell that to students. Here are the real ways to check, what each can show, and the sites to be careful with.

The short answer

There is no Turnitin checker you can buy. Turnitin’s help centre says it does not sell individual licenses or single-use subscriptions. Your options are your school’s Turnitin, iThenticate for manuscripts, or a separate checker.

Who wrote this, and how. This page is published by Plagiarism Checker Plus. We make a checker of our own. We are not Turnitin and have no link to Turnitin. Turnitin facts come from Turnitin’s own pages. The iThenticate page was read on 1 November 2026. Turnitin’s help centre, product page and Draft Coach FAQ were read on 10 October 2026, because they did not open for our reader on 1 November. We have no access to Turnitin and did not compare results.

Start with your school. Ask your instructor, library or IT help desk. Turnitin’s Draft Coach FAQ says Draft Coach is an add-on for Google Docs or Microsoft Word online, and that it depends on the school’s licence. See is Turnitin free? for prices and access.

What Turnitin searches, and why scores differ

Turnitin’s product page says it compares work with a repository of student papers, current and archived web pages, and subscription articles from publishers. No other tool can search those student papers. That is why no independent checker can predict your score.

Be careful with sites that look like Turnitin

Some websites use Turnitin’s name in their own name or address. Some offer a “Turnitin report” for a fee. Turnitin says it does not sell individual access, so these are not official routes.

  • Check who owns the site. A name is not proof.
  • Ask what happens to your paper. Read the privacy policy before you upload.
  • Do not trust a promise of the same score. No outside tool can make that promise honestly.

How to check a paper with an independent tool

  1. Finish your citations first. A check is more useful on a nearly final draft.
  2. Run the check. Look at each match, not only the percentage.
  3. Open each source. Decide if you should quote it, or put the idea in your own words with a citation.
  4. Fix what is a real problem. A quote with a citation is not plagiarism, even if it matches.
  5. Follow your course rules on AI tools. A plagiarism check does not cover them.

Our plagiarism checker gives a first check free with no account, up to 1,000 words, and links every match to its source. Our AI detector gives an overall score and a likelihood for every sentence. A score is not proof. A free account includes 3,000 words a month, and Student plans start at $4.99 a month. It has no database of other students’ papers and does not connect to a school system. For help reading a result, see how to interpret a plagiarism report.

What we do not know

  • How our result compares with Turnitin. We have no access to Turnitin and did not compare.
  • Which schools offer drafts. Only your school can tell you.
  • What other sites do with your text. We did not review other tools’ policies.
