Word Limits: Minimum 50 Words and Guest Limits

The 50-word minimum

Below about 50 words there isn’t enough text for either check to say anything useful, so shorter checks aren’t accepted. This applies everywhere — the website, the Chrome extension and the Google Docs add-on. In the extension, the in-page Check button and the highlighted-text bar only appear once there are 50 words to check.

Guest limits

• One free check per tool — one AI detection check and one plagiarism check.
• Up to 1,000 words per guest check.
• The same rules apply on the website and in the Chrome extension. There may also be a daily limit on free checks from one network.
• No guest checks in Google Docs. The add-on runs on Google’s servers, where guests can’t be told apart, so it needs a free account.

When you’ve used your free checks, you’ll see a prompt to sign in or create a free account to keep checking.

Signed-in limits

With an account, checks draw from your plan’s monthly word allowance, and each plan sets a maximum length for a single check. You can see your remaining words at the top of the extension’s side panel and in the Docs add-on before you check. Plans and allowances are listed on the pricing page.

How words are counted

• Each check counts separately. Running both AI detection and plagiarism on 600 words uses 1,200 words — the extension and add-on show the total before you start.
• Excluded text is free. In Google Docs, quoted text and reference lists you choose to leave out aren’t counted. See Leave out quotes and your reference list.
• Failed checks are refunded. If a check can’t finish, unused words are returned automatically.
• Words are counted by spaces, so numbers, citations and headings in the checked text all count.
