How to Add Remarks (Comments) to a Report
Updated
Short answer
In a report, select a passage of the text and click the Add remark button that appears next to it. Type your comment and click Add remark again (or press Ctrl+Enter). Remarks are listed in the Remarks tab, where you can jump back to the passage, reply, and mark them Resolved when they’re dealt with.
Add a remark to a report
- Open a report while you’re signed in.
- Select a few words or more in the text. A small Add remark button appears next to the selection.
- Click it. The passage you selected is quoted at the top of the box.
- Type your comment under Write a remark... and click Add remark — or press Ctrl+Enter (⌘+Enter on a Mac). Cancel or Esc closes the box without saving.
- The results panel switches to the Remarks tab, where your remark appears under Active.
Working with remarks
- Jump to the passage — click the quoted text on a remark and the report scrolls to it and selects it.
- Reply — click Reply..., type your answer and click Reply.
- Resolve — click Resolve when you’ve dealt with it. It moves to the Resolved list, so the Active list shows only what’s left to do.
- The number on the Remarks tab shows how many remarks the report has.
Ways to use remarks
- Revision notes for yourself — mark passages to rewrite or sources to add before you submit.
- Feedback for a student or colleague — note which matches need a citation and which are fine. Our guide on talking to a student about plagiarism has more on framing that conversation.
- Flag missing citations — pair a remark with the Cite button on the match.
Remarks are saved with the report in your account. To leave remarks, you need to be signed in; see How to read your plagiarism report for the rest of the report.
